TSS 482 Visa Permanent Residency Pathway Confirmed

Pathway for all TSS (subclass 482) visa holders to permanent residency

Further to the announcement earlier this year, the Department of Home Affairs has formally announced the pathway enabling all TSS (subclass 482) visa holders to access permanent residency via the Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186) visa via the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream.

This means that all TSS (subclass 482) visa holders, regardless of whether they are sponsored in an occupation on the Short-term (STSOL), Long-term (MLTSSL) or Regional Occupation List (ROL) will have a pathway to permanent residency.

The Department has advised that these changes are expected to commence from 25 November 2023 subject to the approval of regulation changes.

The eligibility period of employment on a TSS 482 visa has been also reduced from 3 years to 2 years of employment with the most recently approved sponsor.

Removal of limits for short-term (STSOL) onshore applications

The limits on the number of short-term stream TSS applications visa holders can make in Australia, will be removed. Applicants who wish to lodge a third or more short-term stream TSS visa can do so without having to depart Australia.

Age exemption requirements for regional medical practitioners & high income earning applicants

Changes will also be made to age exemptions for regional medical practitioner and high income earning applicants aged 45 years and over to allow for a two-year pathway instead of the current three-year requirement.

The above information has been provided via a fact sheet issued by the Department which can be accessed by clicking here.
