High income threshold to remain at $250,000

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has announced that the effort to reduce the ‘high income threshold from $250,000 to $180,000 per annum has been disallowed.

Legislative Instrument IMMI 15/050 was introduced to the Senate on the 16th June 2015 however this has been disallowed.

The result of this decision is that the previous instrument IMMI 13/028 now comes back into effect when the department is assessing applications.

All applications with a salary of under $250,000 per annum will need to be assessed against the market salary rate provisions as set out in the legislation.
