English Language Requirement Reduced

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has announced the latest updates to the English Language Criteria some Australian Visas.

Effective 18 April 2015, the English language criteria for 457 visas, 485 visas and 476 visas has been reduced significantly.

The Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) English Language Requirement is now:

  • 5 Overall in IELTS with no score less than 4.5

The Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) English Language Requirement is now:

  •  6 Overall in IELTS with no score less than 4.5

 Skilled-RecognizedGraduate (subclass 476) English Language Requirement is now:

  • 6 Overall in IELTS with no score less than 4.5

The test scores for the following tests have also been respectively reduced:

  • Occupational English Test (OET)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic Test)
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test (which was conducted on or after 1 January 2015)
