The Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa is a permanent visa which requires nomination by a State or Territory Government of Australia. It is an application that must be made via the Department’s SkillSelect system.

To apply for the Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa you are required to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect and be invited by the relevant State or Territory Government to make a visa application with the Department of Home Affairs.

After you have received an invitation to apply for the skilled visa you must lodge your application within 60 days. Invitations issued by SkillSelect are only valid for 60 days until they expire and are no longer valid.

Meeting the Criteria for the Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa

You must lodge an Expression of Interest and be invited to apply for the visa from the Australian Government. You then must also be nominated by an Australian State or Territory Government as per the guidelines required in each state. Each state and territory have their own requirements that must be met to receive a successful nomination.

You must achieve at least 65 points in the Skilled Migration Points test and be aged between 18 and 45.

A skills assessment is also required for this visa, and your occupation must be assessed by the relevant skill assessing authority as per the occupation list.

You must also have at least ‘Competent English’ or higher and meet health and character requirements.

How to receive a nomination from an Australian State or Territory Government?

Each state and territory in Australia has a list of occupations that are in demand as per the findings and recommendations of that Government. Some occupations require further requirements to be met such as a higher English language ability, certain amount of work experience, a job offer, or specialised skills.

If you are confident that you meet the requirements for the Nomination from an Australian state or territory you then can apply for a nomination from that State or Territory.

Can I apply outside Australia?

You can apply for the Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 visa in Australia or outside Australia however, if applying in Australia you must be the holder of a substantive visa.
