Everything you need to know about SkillSelect
What is SkillSelect?
SkillSelect is an online interactive program that allows the Australian Government to manage the amount of skilled migrants migrating permanently to Australia. It automatically assesses applicants based on their points score and invites the highest scoring applicants to lodge visa applications.
Essentially, the higher your points score is, the more likely you are to receive an invitation by the Department of Home Affairs to apply for a visa.
It is important to note that lodging an Expression of Interest (EOI) is not a visa application, and you will not receive any bridging visa by doing so. It is therefore important you have enough time in Australia on your substantive visa to enable you to lodge an Expression of Interest, receive an invitation and apply for the visa.
How long am I in the database?
After submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) you will be in the SkillSelect database for 2 years.
What visas can I be invited to apply for?
The most common invitations for visas issued via SkillSelect are:
- Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
- Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 Visa
- Business Innovation & Investment (subclass 188) Visa
How do I submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)?
Expression of Interest’s must be submitted online through the Department’s SkillSelect system.
How much does it cost?
Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect is completely free.
