Partner Visa Australia Cost & Charges 2025 | Full Fee Guide

How Much Does a Partner Visa Cost in Australia?
If you are thinking about applying for a partner visa in Australia, you might wonder how much the entire process will cost and are planning to budget accordingly.
Each year, government visa application charges are subject to an increase imposed by the Department of Home Affairs, effective from 01 July each year. This includes partner visa application fee.
It is important to note that there is no separate government application charge for the permanent stage of a partner visa application. The charge is included as part of the provisional application. In rare cases, the Department of Home Affairs may choose to ‘double grant’ both the provisional and permanent applications together.
The current partner visa charges Australia can be found in the table below.

Additional Costs to Consider
You will experience additional costs throughout the application process and when gathering the required documentation for your partner visa application.
1. Credit-Card Surcharges
Partner visa applications are internet-based applications which are submitted through an online portal provided by the Department of Home Affairs called an Immi Account.
Internet-based applications are subject to a credit card surcharge of 1.4% when lodging the partner visa application fee by the Department of Home Affairs.
For example, if you are lodging a Partner (subclass 820) Visa, the current partner visa fee is $9,365.00. A credit card surcharge of 1.4% will amount to an additional $131.11 to submit your partner visa application.
It is important to note that the Department of Home Affairs only accepts online payments via the following methods:
- Credit Card
- PayPal
- UnionPay
- BPAY
2. Health Exams
For many visa applications in Australia, undertaking a health examination is a mandatory requirement. You are responsible for the cost of your health examination.
The Department of Home Affairs requires all health examinations undertaken in Australia to be completed by Bupa Medical Visa Services. Bupa operate medical centres around Australia on behalf of the Department.
If you are applying from overseas, the Department requires all health examinations to be undertaken by an approved panel physician.
Spouse/Partner visa Australia cost is associated with the health examination, varies depending on the services required, but can range between $300.00 and $600.00 per person.
3. Police Checks
When applying for a visa in Australia, you need to meet the character requirement.
For partner visa subclasses it is a requirement to provide national police certificates (known as National Clearance Certificates in some countries) for each country you have lived in for 12 months or more, in the last 10 years since turning 16 years of age.
It is also important to note that the Australia partner or sponsor, is also required to provide national police certificates.
Police clearance fees differ depending on the country. It is important to include these potential expenses when planning your budget for a partner visa application.
