TSS 482 Visa Holders Given 6 Months To Find a New Sponsor
Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs The Hon Andrew Giles MP has announced that “people working in Australia on a Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) (subclass 482) visa will have 6 months instead of 60 days to be without an employer sponsor”.
Additionally, during this period they will retain their work rights.
Note: The date these changes will come into effect has yet to be announced.
Action Required for Employers
In the event you terminate the employment of a sponsored TSS 482 visa holder, they will have 6 months to find a new sponsor.
If you are looking at employing a TSS 482 visa holder who is currently sponsored by another organisation, but is no longer working for them, they are able to commence working with you without waiting for the new nomination to be approved.
You must however submit a TSS nomination within 6 months of them ceasing employment with their previous sponsor should you wish to retain them.
