Victoria’s 2025–26 Skilled Migration Program Now Open: What you need to know
The Victorian government has officially opened its 2025-2026 Skilled Migration Program enabling prospective migrants to submit registrations of interest for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa programs.
Victorian migration program allocations
For this interim opening, the Department of Home Affairs has granted Victoria a limited allocation:
- 200 places for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
- 180 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)
These are initial or “interim” allocations. The full program allocations will be confirmed once the Department finalises the 2025–26 planning.
The Victorian government has advised they will notify of any updates once further allocations are provided by the Department of Home Affairs.
Eligibility and next steps
The eligibility criteria remain unchanged from last years program, with the eligibility criteria being that you must:
- Be living in Victoria or overseas (you cannot be residing in another state)
- Be committed to living and working in Victoria
- Be under 45 years of age
- Have achieved at least competent English
- Have a valid migration skills assessment in an occupation on the eligible skilled occupation list for the visa you are wishing to be invited for
- Have achieved at least 65 points on the Department of Home Affair’s points test in your Expression of Interest (EOI)
If you have already submitted a Registration of Interest (ROI)
If you already have an active ROI, it remains valid for this year’s program. You will not need to reapply, unless your personal information (occupation, address, etc.) has changed.
If you have not submitted a Registration of Interest (ROI)
Individuals wishing to be nominated by the Victorian government should ensure to lodge a Registration of Interest (ROI) with Victoria as soon as possible.
What happens after your Registration of Interest is submitted?
Once your ROI has been submitted, it will be reviewed by the Victorian government and successful ROI’s will be selected to apply for Victorian state nomination. Selection is very competitive, and due to the limited number of allocations, not all ROI’s are selected. If you are selected, you can proceed to submitting an application for Victorian state nomination.
