COVID-19 Update: Financial Assistance for Student (subclass 500) Visa Holders in Victoria
The Minister for Education, James Merlino has stressed the importance of the Government supporting our international students in Victoria to make sure that they, along with our education providers can emerge on the other side of this crisis and to be in a position to return to life the way it was before COVID-19.
Students fell short of qualifying for JobSeeker and JobKeeper payments along with many not qualifying for the recently announced rental relief payments. The Victorian Government has released an emergency support package that is aimed at helping international students pay the bills and cover basic costs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
International students are eligible for a one off $1,100 payment to help support themselves during these uncertain times. The Victorian Government is establishing the emergency support package worth $45 million as well as expanding emergency provisions for those students who are experiencing exceptional circumstances.
International students who can show a significant reduction or complete halt to their employment and are facing financial hardship will be eligible for the one off payment.
Study Melbourne are working on opening applications as soon as possible.
