457 Update: Transitional arrangements for 457 holders applying for Permanent Residency post March 2018

Up until now there has been significant confusion surrounding if subclass 457 visa holders will be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency via the Subclass 186 – Temporary Residence Transition Stream since the announcement that the 457 visa will be abolished in March 2018.

The Department of Immigration & Border Protection has today announced at a stakeholders meeting that subclass 457 visa holders, or applicants for 457 visa holders as at 18 April 2017 will be eligible to access the Employer Nominated Scheme (subclass 186) via the Temporary Residence Transition Stream.
