The TSS visa allows employers to sponsor visa applicants to work in Australia for up to 2 or 4 years depending on the occupation they are being sponsored in and consists of three stages.
1. Standard Business Sponsorship
This application enables the sponsoring business to become an approved business sponsor. once granted this sponsorship is valid for 5 (or 6 years for accredited sponsors) years and has approval from the Department to sponsor overseas employees.
2. TSS Nomination Application
The nomination application is required to 'nominate' the position you are sponsoring your employee in. it requires information to be provided regarding the salary, and position that your employee is undertaking.
3. TSS (subclass 482) Visa Application
The TSS Visa application is for the visa applicant to be granted a visa to work for the sponsoring business.
Applicants for a TSS (subclass 482) visa must have at least two years of relevant experience in their nominated (or closely related) occupation.
The Department must be satisfied that the role is consistent with the nature of the sponsoring business and its ‘size and scope’ of the business.
The occupation being sponsored must be on the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or the Medium Long-Term Skilled Occupation List (MLTSSL). Occupations on the STSOL are granted a visa for up to two years with occupations on the MLTSSL being granted for up to four years.
Each applicant (including dependents over 16 years of age) must provide a national police clearance for every country they have lived in for more than 12 months in the last 10 years since turning 16 years of age.

Words cannot express the gratitude that I have for the thorough and diligent work of Maria from Ethos Migration Lawyers! She was so supportive with every step of my TSS visa process and I was able to successfully return to Australia as a result. I am very thankful for the dedication to my case- as it was definitely a complicated one. Thank you Ethos Migration Lawyers 🙂!
UNBELIEVABLE SONIA, it should be 20 to 25 months but we got our permanent residency in 7 MONTHS. I went to see 3 migration lawyers and been told that we are not eligible to apply for the visa because of the new requirements but Peter explained to me in confidence that we are actually eligible. These guys are truly professional migration lawyers and they really know the law and how to handle it with a 101% in confidence as it all went smoothly without asking additional documents. Sonia is truly a legend, she will reply to any questions immediately and make sure all documents are up to date before submitting. Thank you very much Ethos Migration Lawyers.
I highly recommend Peter at Ethos Migration Lawyers. My experiences with Ethos were friendly, extremely helpful, and comprehensive. I went with my employer to get help with a TSS visa and Peter made my employer feel much more confident about sponsoring me. He handled all the hard work, setting my and my employers minds at ease about what seemed to be a very complicated, risky, and expensive process. After calling many different agents, Ethos' rates are competitive/normal, but I believe the quality and thoroughness of the attention I received makes their costs of their services impressive. In addition, I felt treasured and valued as a client. I felt I could call anytime with questions (I'm a pretty anxious person when my residency is at stake!) and also, their offices are just gorgeous 🙂 Overall, a very reassuring experience with a capable and warm migration agent. Thanks Peter!
Most people don’t realise how difficult it is and end up blowing their chances. Our experts have been through the process many times and know the tricks to stack the odds in your favour.
If a visa holder is granted a TSS visa based on a nominated occupation on the MLTSSL (Long Term List) they will have the ability to transition to permanent residency after three years if nominated again by the employer.
Visas granted based on an occupation on the STSOL (Short Term List) they can only be granted a two year visa with the ability to renew for a further two years.
The English proficiency requirements differ depending on the occupation list the occupation is listed on. MLTSSL occupations require an English score of 5 in each band of IELTS (or equivalent). STSOL occupations require an English score of an overall 5 in IELTS (or equivalent) unless you are exempt.
Nominated positions must be provided with remuneration at the Australian Market Salary Rate (AMSR) and cannot be under $53,900 (the current Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)).
Certain occupations are subject to ‘Caveats’ which have additional requirements that need to be met. For example, an Accountant being sponsored must be nominated by a business that has a turnover no less that A$1M, have at least 5 employees, and must not be doing clerical or book-keeping tasks.
